UK firms say that 81 per cent of services launched in virtual environments are business critical, but a worrying 41 per cent of the IT professionals responsible say their knowledge or experience of virtual IT is ‘just enough’ or ‘basic’, according to research released today by Kaspersky Lab1.

The study, conducted globally among businesses with 100 or more IT workstations, also found that 18 per cent of UK firms surveyed had patched virtual IT security onto their existing physical IT protection policy. Meanwhile, 45 per cent had introduced a separate security policy just for virtual IT – significantly increasing risk in the first instance and IT management complexity in the second; weighing down the IT infrastructure and delaying the return on investment.

To help companies reap the productivity and efficiency benefits of virtual IT with none of the security risks and complications, Kaspersky Lab has developed Kaspersky Security for Virtualization. The new solution integrates seamlessly with VMware and the Kaspersky Lab business products portfolio, and can also be managed centrally from Kaspersky Security Center 9. This means that channel resellers can now offer customers a single, unified management and security platform fortheir entire virtual, physical and mobile environment, generating valuable opportunities for new and enhanced sales.

New technologies are enabling businesses everywhere to reduce costs and enhance efficiency and productivity. With trends such as the consumerisation of IT, increasing employee mobility, virtualization and cloud computing, IT environments are becoming more complex to support and manage. Many businesses today have a mix of virtual, mobile and physical endpoints – and IT administrators are faced with having to manage multiple security programmes from multiple consoles; weighing down the IT infrastructure, complicating management and delaying the return on investment.

Securing these new virtual and blended IT infrastructures in a way that maximises protection and performance, yet minimises complexity and risk, represents a significant commercial opportunity for channel resellers.

Channel partners wishing to introduce Kaspersky Security for Virtualization to their clients and prospects now have access to enhanced marketing support from Kaspersky Lab, available through Kaspersky Lab’s Partner Portal.  This includes sales enablement assets, as well as a comprehensive go-to-market kit featuring email, online banner, advertising, direct mail and html web page templates, complemented by a personalised call to action, the ‘Be Ready’ security assessment. For nurturing there is a range of assets, including Kaspersky Lab and third party white papers, research reports, infographics, presentations and a webinar kit. Channel partners can now also benefit from a quarterly European Channel Newsletter supplementing country newsletters. For more information please visit:

“Kaspersky Lab, in partnership with VMware, is delighted to offer its channel partners Kaspersky Security for Virtualization,” said Andrew Lintell, corporate sales director for UK and Ireland, Kaspersky Lab. “Virtualization is a vitally important and transformational technology that offers many business benefits, including enhanced IT efficiency. However it requires customers to think differently about how to secure IT from potential cybercrime and malicious attacks. Channel partners want to help new and existing customers to better address this challenge. They need to do this with a high quality offering that has the potential to drive sales and boost revenue. Kaspersky Lab now offers channel partners a holistic protection suite that can be managed centrally by end-users, whatever their environment. Whether virtual, mobile or physical: protection is immediate, and complete.”

Jonathan Gohstand, Director of Product Marketing, Networking and Security at VMware adds, “It’s more important now than ever before that IT departments provide safe, reliable access to business-critical applications and data. The integration of Kaspersky Security for Virtualisationwith VMware vShield® Endpoint Security™ helps IT departments implement security where it needs to be – right at the centre of the IT infrastructure, rather than added on as an afterthought. This tool enables IT teams to minimise risk while they do the important job of supporting and growing the business.”
