The Company
Syctom has the responsibility for processing and recycling the household waste of 5.5 million people in 85 member municipalities in the Paris area. These professionals help to reduce waste using the logic of environmental sustainability.
The Problem
In early 2006, Syctom decided to switch security solutions after detecting serious drawbacks in the previous solution's ability to detect malicious code. With an average of 2 to 3 virus attacks per week, the company could not afford to keep taking chances with the security of its network.
The Solution
Before choosing Kaspersky Lab, the Sytcom IT specialists tested a dozen different security systems. Norbert Beaucé, system administrator at Syctom explains: “The main advantages of this vendor were high quality performance and a very high detection rate. In addition, Kaspersky Lab has a good reputation. We were not mistaken in our choice,” says the Sytcom IT administrator Norbert Beaucé. Once Syctom started working with Kaspersky Lab, the volume of incoming spam was cut in half. “Every day we receive about one thousand messages which are detected by Kaspersky Lab as spam. Very few spam messages reach our email boxes and more than 80% of them are deleted immediately. We could have even improved this result but our partners such as the local government authorities, Mayor's Office, etc. are still working with mailing systems which can easily mistaken for spam. This is the only thing restricting our protection level,” says Mr. Beaucé. Such results were achieved due to the use of Kaspersky Mail Gateway installed in 2006. Installation was performed smoothly (as opposed to the deletion of the previous protection system of the other vendor).
Currently Syctom includes 100 workstations, 25 servers (NT 2003 server) and a 14-terabyte HP SAN. In the near future, the company’s IT system will develop an Extranet system designed for the company’s partners. Syctom’s plans also include protection of its 30 smartphones from malware attacks.
