{"id":20654,"date":"2020-06-08T11:15:33","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T10:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.uk\/blog\/?page_id=20654"},"modified":"2022-05-05T16:51:07","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T15:51:07","slug":"love-and-loneliness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.uk\/blog\/love-and-loneliness\/","title":{"rendered":"Love and Loneliness \u2013 a growing pandemic?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lockdown \u2013 four months ago, most of the globe hadn\u2019t heard of the phrase and life went on as normal \u2013 however, most of the world is now in full lockdown or just starting to come out of it \u2013 it\u2019s worth looking at how this pandemic has affected our mental health and the part technology has played in keeping us all connected.<\/p>\n<p>There is a growing concern that whilst lockdown persists, those stuck indoors with little-to-no social interaction with friends and family start to suffer.\u00a0 In fact, new <a href=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/09142852\/KAS0739-Kaspersky-Find-your-tribe-report-v3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">research<\/a> from Kaspersky shows that actually, the issue of loneliness hasn\u2019t sprung from nowhere \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/09132305\/KAS0741-Kaspersky-Find-my-tribe-infographic_08.06.20_AW1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">41% of Europeans surveyed<\/a> were already lonely, even before lockdown started.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/08111248\/love-and-loneliness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/08111248\/love-and-loneliness-996x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Covid-19 pandemic has given loneliness a voice, with many Europeans struggling under lockdown, but will easing of restrictions ease feelings of loneliness?\" width=\"996\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-20656\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another surprise is that, despite their natural flair for all things technological, Gen-Z actually fared the worst with nearly 70% admitting to feeling lonely during lockdown, compared to just 37% of the baby-boomer generation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/08111248\/love-and-loneliness-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2020\/06\/08111248\/love-and-loneliness-1-1024x538.jpg\" alt=\"A concerning growth in loneliness\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-20655\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So what can people do to help themselves and their loved ones stay connected?\u00a0 Technology is still key \u2013 in fact, we are lucky to live in a time when prolific communications technology is free and readily available.\u00a0 But it\u2019s more important than ever as we rapidly adopt these technologies that we consider our security and using them safely.
