It\u2019ll only take a few hours and maybe a law degree. No? You\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n<p>Despite many years of experience, humorous stories (ha ha, you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/speaking-of-science\/wp\/2014\/09\/29\/londoners-accidentally-pay-for-free-wi-fi-with-a-firstborn-because-no-one-reads-anymore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">signed away your baby<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/apples-mind-bogglingly-greedy-and-evil-license-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">dire warnings<\/a>, no one reads EULAs \u2014 that\u2019s end-user license agreements, those things you have to sign electronically before installing software, signing up for online services, or connecting to a free Wi-Fi hotspot. They are bills of sale that outline what you pay and what you get in return.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t blame people for not scanning EULAs carefully. They\u2019re boring and usually very long. A few years ago, <em>Time<\/em> magazine estimated thoroughly reading those pesky agreements would take about <a href=\"http:\/\/techland.time.com\/2012\/03\/06\/youd-need-76-work-days-to-read-all-your-privacy-policies-each-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">76 work days per year<\/a>. But at the same time, we can\u2019t ignore the fact that EULAs are legally binding. If you\u2019re not sure what they say, maybe you shouldn\u2019t sign them.<\/p>\n<p>A few suggestions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the agreement is short, at least skim it;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a EULA analyzing tool such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightfort.com\/eulalyzer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">EULAlyzer<\/a>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t use the service if you don\u2019t have to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, we all know there\u2019s no such thing as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/smart-wifi-vkontakte-credentials\/8279\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">free lunch<\/a>, but many of us live in hope.
