Kaspersky Lab is pleased to announce that the company’s CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky has received the National Friendship Award of China. The official award ceremony took place on 29th September in Beijing. Zhang Dejiang, the Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated the award winners and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Chinese government.
The Friendship Award, conferred by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, is the highest national award granted to foreign experts, and is presented to express China’s gratitude as well as reward dedication and outstanding results in national social development. Eugene Kaspersky received this special award for his outstanding contribution to the information security industry. He was also invited to attend the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China as an honoured guest.
Eugene Kaspersky was also presented with the Haihe River Friendship Award on 29 September. The award, which was set up by Tianjin Municipal Government in 1993, is conferred to foreign experts who contribute greatly to the economic and social development of Tianjin city.
Eugene Kaspersky graduated from the Institute of Cryptography, Telecommunications and Computer Science. He began his research of computer viruses in 1989 after the Cascade virus was detected on his computer. From 1991 to 1997 Eugene worked at KAMI Information Technologies Center where he developed the AVP antivirus project together with a group of associates (AVP was renamed Kaspersky Anti-Virus in November 2000). Eugene Kaspersky co-founded Kaspersky Lab in 1997, and was appointed CEO of the Company in 2007. Today, Eugene Kaspersky is one of the world's leading antivirus experts with 20 years of experience in the field of information security. He regularly speaks at seminars and conferences all over the world, and is the author of a number of articles and reviews covering topics related to computer virology. In 2009 he received the State Prize of the Russian Federation for Science and Technology.
