Only two in ten women across Europe have internet security on their smartphones despite it being a concern for half of the female population, according to research from Kaspersky Lab1.
This is especially worrying given that malware infections aimed at smartphones rose by 33%2 last year. These statistics have prompted the experts at Kaspersky Lab to team up female technology gurus, Lady Geek TV, to help women understand the personal risks associated with surfing the internet without adequate security.
As the amount of gadgets we use to access the internet increases – so does the risk of viruses, attacks and our precious data and images falling into the wrong hands. With experts predicting the purchase of smartphones to overtake PCs by 2012, this makes personal security on all devices more important than ever.
Tackling these issues will be addressed in a series of Lady Geek TV films. Weekly episodes will debut at the same time every week, offering the viewer practical tips and common sense solutions in easily digestible portions.
“It’s important to that we are partnering with a group which enables people to understand more about important technology and how it can greatly, and positively, impact their lives,” said Costin Raiu, director of the global research and analysis team at Kaspersky Lab.
Throughout the series the Lady Geek TV Security Show’s charismatic presenting team will tackle mobile security, inappropriate content, social networks, cyber bullying, identity theft and the ins and outs of malware.
Belinda Parmar, founder of Lady Geek and Lady Geek TV said: "The Lady Geeks are very excited to be partnering with Kasperksy to deliver an internet security show aimed at women- the first of its kind. With over 50% of women globally being concerned about internet security and 80%3 of women having no security software on their phone, we wanted to address these issues directly and provide some common sense solutions but do it in an entertaining way."
The first action-packed instalment will premiere on Wednesday 5 October at 9am on YouTube. To view the first episode, log on to Kaspersky Lab’s YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Kaspersky. Be sure to visit each week to keep up with the latest episode of the Lady Geek TV Security show.
