US and UK companies express the greatest concern about the future impact on business from cyber-threats, according to a recent survey conducted by B2B International in conjunction with Kaspersky Lab. Over half the respondents from these countries expect the business risk from cyber-threats to rise sharply by 2014.
While US and UK companies are preparing for a future with cyber-threats, in some countries IT security has already become the number one problem for businesses. According to the survey, companies in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China currently suffer most from cyber-security issues. More than a quarter have been affected in some way. At the other end of the scale, in Saudi Arabia businesses do not see cyber-threats as a serious problem, and do not expect any change in the immediate future.
Commenting on the results of the study, Alexander Erofeev, Chief Marketing Officer of Kaspersky Lab, said: “It is not surprising that companies in developed countries are so concerned about cyber-security risks in the immediate future. Contemporary businesses rely on thousands of devices, both in the office and on the move, and it is critically important to protect this infrastructure from external threats. In just a few minutes cybercriminals can cause crippling damage to a company, leading to financial loss, the leakage of sensitive data, security breaches and potentially serious legal problems.”
The Global IT Security Risks survey, carried out in July 2012, represents the views of 3,300 senior IT professionals from 22 countries worldwide on major issues facing the industry. Respondents were all IT experts involved in decision-making processes, including those with direct influence over company security strategy.
